A trip down memory lane ...

I went home for the weekend - home as in family home, my folks place, not where I live permanently anymore!  Anyone who knows me will know that I LOVE going home!  It's like my own little escape from city life and mini holiday filled with Mom's cooking, Dad's chirping, not having to make my own bed & Sunday MotoGP sessions!

A while ago we had all our old negatives, from even before I was born, put on disc.  I am now transferring these to a harddrive, which is a HUGE task considering there are thousands of pics!  It is however, one of the most fun exercises I have undertaken in a while ... !

A trip down memory lane is better than any holiday!  It reminds us of what is important and the happiest moments of our lives, people only take photographs of the things they love & the great times they have had! Nobody takes photo's of anger or sadness, or at least nobody in my family does!

I have realised a few things (and Im sure I will realise more as I get deeper into the collection):-

  1. I am EXTREMELY lucky - I have had one of the most incredible upbring'ings!
  2. My life has been 99.999% filled with happiness & love & laughter & travels
  3. What my parents have is something of a fairytale and probably amongst the rarest things in the world.  True soul-mates!  I will be incredibly lucky to find even a tenth of what they have one day
  4. My sister & I loved each other much more when life was simplier and we were 4ft tall!  I will work on finding that place with her again - we were best friends!
  5. My parents were hippies, we went everywhere in a blue camper van, often wore very little, if anything and discovered parts of this lovely country that few South Africans dare to venture towards!
  6. Life is far more meaningful when you stop worrying about the material things in your life & start worrying about the people in your life!
So, as I continue to discover a deluge of embarrasing baby pics & evidence of my folks life pre-children, I do hope to discover more than just pictures & memories ... but a whole new way to appreciate what I have!

And, maybe ... If a find something Im willing to share with the world ... I will do a little post about that some other time :)
